Celtics take Game 2 now lead the series 2-0

Jayson Tatum shooting jumper over Norman Powell

Jayson Tatum is a Superstar

The Boston Celtics edge out the Toronto Raptors in a tough fought Game 2 to now lead the series 2-0.

The Raptors could not slow down Jayson Tatum, as he went for 34 points on 8/17 shooting. He was getting whatever he wanted, drives to the lane, creating space for open 3’s and finding open teammates when he was being doubled. Marcus Smart was huge in the 4th quarter. Knocking down 5 straight 3-pointers to cut the lead to 1.

The Raptors were up 8 at the end of the third, but Marcus Smart just lit them up in the fourth, making some tough shots. In crunch time the Raptors were failing to convert open shots and making sloppy mistakes which cost them this game.

Raptors all-star Pascal Siakam made some crucial mistakes at the end of the game. With 30 seconds left and down 3 points, Siakam drove to the basket and got stripped from Marcus Smart in which the play was reviewed to confirm that Smart had stepped out of bounds, in the attempt to save the ball. The next play the Raptors in-bounded the ball and found Siakam in the corner, where he tried to pump fake and run by his man, but stepped on the line and turned the ball over.

The next play the Raptors did get a stop with 4 seconds left on the clock. They decided to not call timeout and Fred Vanvleet threw up a tough 3 to try and tie the game which did not fall. The Celtics won Game 2 102-99.

Post Game Reactions

The officiating in the first half felt very lop sided in the favor of the Celtics. In the first half, the Celtics attempted 11 free throws to the Raptors attempting 0. This wasn’t the reason why they lost the game but the officiating did seem to be in the Celtics favor in the first half.

Raptors head coach Nick Nurse was asked post game what he though of the officiating, where he said that he couldn’t talk about that. But when talking about the the lop sided foul calls during the game he did mention that “they took care of him today” when talking about the number of times Jayson Tatum got to the line, 14/14. The Raptors whole team attempted 19.

Raptors need to get some confidence going into Game 3, which is a must win game for the Raptors. There is only 3 teams that have come back from 3-0 deficit and with the way the Celtics are playing right now that would be a tough task to ask.

Pascal Siakam needs to show us that he can close out games for us in the play-offs. He was very good during the season when the pressure was not on, but in the playoffs hes been quite. We need a big performance from him on Thursday in the Raptors want to have a chance of extending this series past 4 games.
